American Voices takes Hip Hop Dance to the far edges of the Silk Road
At the invitation of the US Embassy, American Voices took dancers Michael Parks Masterson, Quae Simpson and Brian Jones to the far edges of the Silk Road;  Urumchi, Western China (Xinjiang). The American Voices ensemble was slated to appear in Kashgar and Yi Ning as well. These appearances were postponed however due to the unrest in the regions at that time.

In a quick re-think of the project, the artists continued on to Beijing after only two teaching days in Urumchi. There, they taught for several days at Beijing's most prestigious dance schools: School of Music and Dance, Beijing Academy of Dance and Beijing Sport's University.

As is often the case in our Hip Hop projects, there is a tremendous amount of talent and interest in Hip Hop among young dancers in the most remote parts of the globe. We look forward to the opportunity to work with these students again.

Dance instructor, Michael Parks Masterson had this to say about the visit to the Beijing Academy of Dance: 'We spent about 45 minutes  choreographing a music theatre song and these kids took to this choreography faster than any I've worked with since I came on with American Voices.  After, we took a tour of the school and it was magical.
